Director of Transportation at next PTA meeting

At our next PTA meeting on November 4 at 7:00pm our guest will be George Beckwith, Director of Transportation for the district. He’ll be available to answer general transportation questions.

The general business meeting will follow the presentation.

2009/2010 Budget

This year’s operating budget of $21,000 was reviewed and approved by the members present at our September 17th meeting. Please contact me for a budget copy.

Room Parent Tea

The Room Parent Tea is scheduled for Monday October 5th at 3:15pm. Room Parents will be chosen on September 25th and notified on September 28th.

PTA Meetings

The next PTA meeting is Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 7:00pm in the library. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm. Meetings are a great way to learn what events are going on and offers a chance to meet other parents and faculty. All are welcome.

Pumpkin Festival

This year’s festival will be held on Friday, October 23rd 6-9pm. Come mingle with other families; it’s a great way to get to know other families in the school. Volunteers are needed and information will come home soon. Volunteering is a great way to work together with your child and meet their friends. Remember your costumes!

PARP

Parents As Reading Partners begins October 26th. This is a voluntary program when students sign a contract and read each night with a parent.

School Pictures

School pictures are scheduled for October 27th.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

Watch for our next fundraiser beginning October 26th. Plan your holiday baking with these great products. Delivery will be in early December.

27th Annual Holiday Craft Fair

Our Craft Fair is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2009, 10-4pm at Arlington High School. Plan to do some holiday shopping. All crafts are handmade and the show is juried. Many volunteers are needed to run this event and information will be sent home in October.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair

This year’s book fair will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Proceeds directly benefit the PTA. Plan to do some holiday shopping while listening to Noxon performers.

Topic:  Preparing for a CSE Meeting
Guest Speaker:  Karen Lynch, Special Education Advocate at Taconic Resources For Independence, Inc.

  • What is the Committee on Special Education (CSE) Process?
  • How does the committee determine if my child is eligible for special education services?
  • How can I prepare for the meeting?
  • How do I get my child’s services? What services are available for my child?
  • Understanding your school’s responsibilities, and your rights.
  • What other resources are available outside the school to help you and your child.

Karen Lynch has been a special education advocate at TRI for the past 2 years.
She regularly holds workshops on special education rights. She is also the president of the special education parent advisory council in Wappingers School District.

About the Arlington Support Group:
This is a parent organized group that meets three times a year and provides a venue for parents and educators within the Arlington School District to meet and discuss issues. It is open to all parents and educators of elementary, middle or high school age students having special needs, an IEP or 504 .
